Ser Study - Material Render

This is a piece I painted with the focus solely on material render, as a direct follow-up of a photo copy/study done just before. Thus the very boring and simple composition.

Credit of the original reference goes to Howard Koons, taken during the Renaissance Fair at South Lake Tahoe.

I painted three versions of the initial photo:

  • The first while taking as long as I needed to get close to an exact copy

  • The second time immediately after without any direct references but a few notes and a hard time limit of 5 hours. I was surprised by how not terrible it was, even considering I spent a whole day staring at the reference just before.

  • The third time was just to correct the mistakes I made in V2. Apparently I still don’t know how helmets look like.
